The sky was perfect for the lunar eclipse last night. But true to character the red tint gave me the friggin willies. I was with others so it was ok. But did it have to turn red?! Arg.
It was still really beautiful to watch though. The stars were amazing. No Aurora though.
Stuff like that makes me feel wonderfully insignificant. I'm so tiny in such a vast universe. I'm tiny. My problems are tiny. And yet I still exist in such a beautiful immense world. I was blessed enough to exist. Space is so beautiful.
"Falling is Like This" by Ani DiFranco is a fun song. It's just very sweet. It reminds me of Lemongrass Tea.
One of Heidi's good friends from high school got shipped off to Iraq. She's a little upset about that. Is this going to turn into a lengthy bloody war? It's already hard on the people of Iraq, but is that going to spread to the US as well?

war is hell, no one cares until it hits them personally, damned ignorant people. the entire history of the world is one giant lengthy bloody war erin, get used to it. how come everyone joins up for the national guard and when they're actually called up to fight they get upset? get used to it, it happens people, it's what the military is all about. *end rant* sorry but i think you people need a reality check. wars are hard for all parties involved. if its hard on iraq why not the US too? wars are like taht, the occupation is actually doing surprisingly well if you actually look into the past and see what other post war reconstructions were like. chew on that. anyways yeah i was supposed to end rant. i didn't see the eclipse, *whimpers* we are all tiny i guess, but remember, you're just as important as everything else despite being tiny.

btw, when i meant damned ignorant people i meant people who supported the war without thinkign about it's consequences. i supported teh war fully knowing what the consequences would be, and i'm actually considering joining the airforce. i didn't mean to call you an ignorant person guyzos, sorry ^_^

It's red because the light which illuminates it at teh total eclipse is light re-reflected from the earth. The red tint is what is so neat about it. When we recieve light, we recieve it in all colors of the visible spectrum. The earth absorbs all but blue, hence why the sky is blue. Blue light is scattered. When we reflect light, we give it off at a lower wavelength than what recieved it as. For example, when we recieve yellow light, when we reflect some of it back, it goes to orange light. And orange light to red light. Most light we reflect to the moon is red because our atmosphere slows down the wavelenght and so it shifts down. Hence in astro, when they refer to objects redshifting, they are moving away from us at a high speed. Blue shift means that they're shifting towards us.
Didn't mean to give a lesson on astro.
Iraq will spread, much like anything which happens worldwide spreads. But it will get diluted and worn away, much like an earthquake dies down the further away you are. Plus, we are starting to get help internationally. Despite everything, it could be worse. We could be dealing with North Korea. Which is a far bigger problem, as it always has been.

Having studied the korean situation for many years (does five count? it's my home country btw) i admit that i am at a loss. There really isn't a way to "deal" with North Korea. They have what's called a chicken bone defense. You can take me out but i'm gonna do lots of damage. It basically goes like this, North Korea makes a demand, we call their bluff, they fire their 2000 artillery pieces in unison at seoul, demolishing it in 5 min. sure the nukes might be bad but the artillery is worse. US military would win but South Korea and Japan would be in a shambles. Sorry had to put my two cents in *again*
